12th Baroque Opera Festival in Warsaw rounded off with “Castor et Pollux” by Jean-Philippe Rameau

Castor et Pollux” will be shown twice (November 23 and 24), rounding off the 12th Baroque Opera Festival. The production was honored with two Jan Kiepura Theater Music Awards in 2022, for best director and costumes. Deda Cristina Colonna’s staging premiered in 2021, with set design and choreography by Francesco Vitali, and Benjamin Bayl as Music Director. The two upcoming performances mark yet another revival of the title by the Warsaw Chamber Opera.

“Castor et Pollux”, a masterpiece of French opera written by Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764), tells the beautiful story of the journey of two brothers mortal Castor and immortal Pollux who walk together between life, death, jealousy and love. The opera was first shown at the Académie Royale de Musique in Paris on October 24, 1737, proving a spectacular success. Within two months, the work was performed 21 times, and in the years 1737-1785 as many as 254 times.

The cast features: Kieran White (Castor), Kamil Zdebel (Pollux), Tosca Rousseau (Télaïre), Marta Brzezińska-Szmaj (Phoebé), Dawid Biwo (Jupiter) and Wojciech Sztyk, Joanna Sojka and Aleksander Kunach.
