5th International Adam Didur Opera Singers’ Competition directed by baritone Andrzej Dobber for the first time
The 5th International Adam Didur Opera Singers’ Competition, held from October 6 until October 15, marks a number of anniversaries. 45 years have passed since its first national edition, and 20 years since the first international one. This year is also the 150th anniversary of the birth of the competition’s patron Adam Didur, one of the most outstanding Polish basses. Baritone Andrzej Dobber has been appointed Artistic Director of the contest for the first time.
The prize pool is 40,000 euro. There are numerous special prizes awarded by directors of Polish opera theaters. The prizes have been funded by: the Polish National Opera, the Wrocław Opera, the Krakow Opera, the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk, the Polish Royal Opera and the Grand Theater in Poznań, as well as the Dresden Semperoper and the Lviv Opera. The Mayor of Katowice Marcin Krupa has sponsored the prize for the best Polish finalist, while the Mayor of Bytom Mariusz Wołosz has funded the prize for the audience favorite singer.
72 singers from 13 countries participate in the competition, with 48 vocalists representing Poland. The full list can be found here. The first stage of the competition will start on October 7 at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music. From the second stage, the auditions will be streamed online. The competition is organized by the Silesian Opera in Bytom.
