Ada Sari Vocal Artistry Competition steps onto the world stage with the final streamed on OperaVision
The 21st edition of the the Ada Sari International Vocal Artistry Competition — one of the oldest and most prestigious vocal events in Poland — will take place from May 17 to 24. A total of 59 young singers from around the world will arrive in Nowy Sącz, with the winner awarded a prize of €10,000.
The auditions, open to the public, can be followed live on adasari.pl, while the third and final stage of the competition will, for the first time, be available on OperaVision. This international free platform offers live streams and replays of operas from major European stages — and now also broadcasts finals of vocal competitions.
In Nowy Sącz, young vocal talents will present their skills before an international jury, chaired by renowned mezzo-soprano Małgorzata Walewska, who is also the Artistic Director of the competition. The auditions will be held at the Małopolska Cultural Centre SOKÓŁ, the organizer. This year’s edition includes participants from 15 countries, with 23 singers from Poland. The majority are sopranos (32 singers), but mezzosopranos, tenors, baritones, and basses will also perform. For years, the Ada Sari Competition has been a springboard to international careers — among its laureates are Piotr Beczała, Andrzej Dobber, and Hanna-Elisabeth Müller.
Ada Sari (1886–1968) sang under the baton of great masters such as Leoncavallo, Mascagni, and Toscanini, and performed alongside Beniamino Gigli, Mattia Battistini, Titta Ruffo, and Tito Schipa. Her path to success was not easy—she achieved global acclaim through hard work and a unique vocal transformation: from dramatic soprano to coloratura soprano, in which she became a worldwide phenomenon.
