Andrzej Lampert sings Nadir in Silesian Opera’s premiere of Bizet’s “The Pearl Fishers”
The performance marks the third production of “The Pearl Fishers” in the history of the theater in Bytom. The first one, shown in 1963, featured the unforgettable Wiesław Ochman in the role of Nadir. The second staging was produced in 1993.
The new version has been prepared by Waldemar Zawodziński (director, set and lighting designer), Piotr Mazurek (musical director), Małgorzata Słoniowska (costume designer), Janina Niesobska (choreographer). The production is based around the premiere at the Wrocław Opera in 2013 (The Centennial Hall).
The cast lined up for the opening night includes: Andrzej Lampert as Nadir, Kamil Zdebel as Zurga, Ruslana Koval in the role of Leïla, and Grzegorz Szostak as Nurabad.
The show opens on Saturday, March 16, with more performances on March 17, 23 and 24, 2024.
The plot of Georges Bizet’s opera is set in a fishing village on the island of Ceylon. The chief of the village Zurga and the hunter Nadir both fall in love with the beautiful priestess Leïla. She breaks her sacred oath, and despite her promise of chastity, has a passionate love affair with Nadir. When their relationship comes to light, the village chief is forced to pronounce a death sentence on the lovers. Will Zurga sacrifice his love for the sake of friendship?
