Ballet miniatures and debuts during the “Creations 17” dance workshops
The “Creations” dance workshops, held from April 25 to 29 at the Młynarski Hall of the Polish National Opera, are not only a platform for the debuts of Polish National Ballet members but also a safe and supportive space for developing stage skills. For the seventeenth time, dancers will try their hand at becoming creatives, handling the whole production process, preparation of the programme brochure, promotion, and naturally and most importantly, choreography and performance of the works.
The project, initiated in 2009 by the director of the Polish National Ballet, Krzysztof Pastor, has provided dancers with a space for choreographic experimentation. This year, audiences will see eight original dance miniatures prepared by dancers who have already made their names in stage performance. Now, they will step to the other side, telling their own stories through movement — sometimes subtle and poetic, other times full of energy and humor.
The project is supported by managers Gianni Melfi and Kristóf Szabó, technical coordinator Magda Studzińska, and program editor Adam Huczka.
Each of the four April evenings will offer a mosaic of styles, inspirations, and emotions — from baroque dance interpreted by Joanna Drabik, through swing rhythms in the debut piece “Swing’a Ding!” by Ivan Pal, to contemporary sounds in the duo O.N.S. by Eugénie Hecquet. Anna Hop — well-known to audiences from previous editions of the workshops — will return with the charming and intimate “Pillow Preludes,” while Antonio Lanzo will explore the myth of Salome using Oscar Wilde’s text.
The program also features “Adam Celebrated” by Gianni Melfi and the atmospheric “Nostalgia” by Kristóf Szabó.
