“Rusałka” was staged for the first time in 1901. The Czech opera tells the fairy-tale story of the water nymph Rusalka who falls in love with a human – the Prince. She turns into a woman with the help of the witch Ježibaba and leaves the lake. In return for her help, Ježibaba takes away Rusalka’s beautiful voice. Rejected by the Prince, she returns to the lake. The prince begs for forgiveness and at least one kiss, which, according to the curse, would kill him.
