Gabriela Legun, Hyejin Lee, Zuzanna Nalewajek and Lang Wei in “Viva Sari” concert
The concert performance at the Polish National Opera marks Ada Sari’s birthday. Held at the Redutowe Rooms on June 29, the show features prize-winners and finalists of the Ada Sari International Vocal Artistry Competition: Gabriela Legun (soprano), Hyejin Lee (soprano), Zuzanna Nalewajek (mezzo-soprano) and Lang Wei (tenor). The singers will be accompanied by Natalia Pawlaszek and Michal Biel.
Named after Ada Sari, the competition was launched in May 1985 on the initiative of Prof. Helena Łazarska. It is held by the SOKÓŁ Małopolska Culture Center, Cultural Institution of the Małopolska Voivodeship. Aside from the reputation such competition holds anywhere across the world, the concept behind the project has been to educate and prepare emerging singers for major international vocal contests and performances. Małgorzata Walewska has been Artistic Director of the Competition since 2015.
Ada Sari performed under the baton of such brilliant conductors as Leoncavallo, Mascagni and Toscanini. She partnered with Beniamino Gigli, Mattia Battistini, Titta Ruffo and Tito Schipa on stage. It was no easy task to develop such a glittering career and become a world-wide phenomenon for her. Ada Sari achieved her position through consistent vocal training and by taking an unusual path from a dramatic to coloratura soprano.
