Golden Globes: Will Angelina Jolie win the award for her role as Maria Callas?
Angelina Jolie was nominated for the third time for a Golden Globe in the category of best actress in a film drama. This time for the role of the legendary soprano in Pablo Larrain’s film “Maria Callas.”
The star will compete for the statuette with Pamela Anderson, Nicole Kidman, Tilda Swinton, Fernanda Torres and Kate Winslet. The winner will be announced on January 5, 2025, during the Golden Globe Awards Gala, which will traditionally take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
The biographical drama “Maria Callas” premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where it received an eight-minute standing ovation from the audience. In addition to Jolie, the film stars Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher and Valeria Golino. The movie tells the story of Maria Callas, who returns to Paris shortly before her death, after turbulent years to come to terms with her own identity and life.
Angelina Jolie is expected to receive an Oscar nomination for portraying the all-time opera diva. The nominations will be announced on January 17, 2025. The actress spent seven months taking singing, voice and Italian lessons. Although she sang using an operatic technique during the filming, her voice was mixed with Callas’ real voice.
Since 1944, the Golden Globe Awards have been awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for achievements in film and television. In recent years, the Association has been going through a deep crisis, which nearly led to the disappearance of awards. The crisis was averted in 2022 and the 82nd edition will be broadcast live by the American television station CBS.
