The production is another broadcast in the The Met: Live in HD series distributed by nazywowkinach.pl. “Grounded” premiered on the Met stage in September this year. The contemporary production is based on George Brant’s acclaimed play of the same title. The music was created by award-winning composer Jeanine Tesori, and the Met Orchestra was conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

The opera raises issues of the 21st century warfare, including the ethical consequences of the use of modern military technologies and the mental and emotional impact they have on the soldiers who employ them. Mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo plays the role of a fighter plane pilot. Due to an unplanned pregnancy, she is forced to resign from active duty and is sent to a base in Los Angeles, where she remotely pilots Reaper drones, thus carrying out attacks on targets located on the other side of the world.

List of cinemas and screening times on October 19 is available on the website.
