Jakub Józef Orliński among the stars of the Opening Ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games
For the first time in the history of the Summer Olympic Games, the Opening Ceremony did not take place in the stadium, but on the most iconic artery of Paris, the Seine. The organizers had assured it would be “bold, original and unique.”
The music director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games, Victor le Masne, proposed a musical program featuring classical repertoire. Until the very end, the organizers kept secret the names of the performing artists. The surprise was the performance of Jakub Józef Orliński, who presented his breakdancing skills and Phani’s aria “Viens, Hymen” from “Les Indes galantes” by the French composer of the Baroque era, Jean-Philippe Rameau.
Breaking and baroque, a perfect match! 🤩

Swiss mezzo-soprano Marina Viotti performed Habanera from “Carmen”, and soprano Axelle Saint-Cirel sang the French national anthem from the roof of the Grand Palais. During the broadcast, millions of viewers watched performances by Lady Gaga, pianist Alexander Kantorow, dancers from Moulin Rouge and Aya Nakamura. At the end of the evening, Canadian star Celine Dion sang “Hymn to Love” from the repertoire of Edith Piaf.
