Mezzo-soprano Okka von der Damerau will perform at NOSPR (Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra) in selected fragments of Wagner’s “Twilight of the Gods”. The artist will sing the part of one of the Valkyries – Brünnhilde. The NOSPR orchestra will be led by the Swedish conductor Christian Karlsen. The concert, which will also feature Beethoven’s “Leonor” overture and Kaija Saariaho’s “Laterna Magica”, will be held on March 14.

“Twilight of the Gods” is the last in Richard Wagner’s cycle of four epic music dramas titled “The Ring of the Nibelung” which premiered in 1876. It consists of the following parts: “Das Rheingold”, “Valkyrie”, “Siegfried” and “Twilight of the Gods”.

Okka von der Damerau has established herself as one of the leading mezzo-sopranos of her generation. For many years, the Hamburg-based singer was a soloist with the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where she sang roles in operas by Wagner, Verdi and Dvorak. She regularly appears on opera stages throughout Europe, including the Opéra National de Paris, the Vienna State Opera, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Semperoper in Dresden and the Bayreuth Festival.
