New productions by Krzysztof Warlikowski in Salzburg, Munich and Paris
This year in August, the Salzburg Festival will host the premiere of Mieczysław Weinberg’s “The Idiot” directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski. The musical director of the show is Lithuanian conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla. The cast features Jerzy Butryn.
In March 2025, Warlikowski will premiere of “Káťa Kabanová” by Leoš Janáček at the Bayerische Staatsoper, also conducted by Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla. For the last 15 years, the Polish director has regularly collaborated with the Munich theater, where he has produced: “Eugene Onegin”, “Salome”, “The Woman Without a Shadow” and “Tristan and Isolde”, among others.
In the she same year, Warlikowski directs Richard Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris (opening in May 2025) with Henrik Nánási conducting on the podium.
The director works with set and costume designer Małgorzata Szczęśniak and choreographer Claude Bardouil on all of the above productions.
Krzysztof Warlikowski is currently one of the most influential European theater directors. He is the artistic director of the Nowy Teatr in Warsaw, a long-term collaborative project he co-founded.
