New Year on the Baltic Sea: what’s on at the Philharmonic and Opera in Gdańsk?
The Great New Year’s Eve Gala at the Baltic Philharmonic features Aleksandra Kubas-Kruk (soprano), Małgorzata Walewska (mezzo-soprano), Tomasz Kuk (tenor) and Andrzej Dobber (baritone). Artistic Director George Tchitchinadze conducts the orchestra. The program of the concert includes the most famous opera arias and overtures, showing the richness of the Italian and French musical tradition. The first part focuses on Italian masters such as Verdi and Puccini. After the interval, the audience will hear works by Bizet, Moniuszko and Leoncavallo.
On December 31, the Baltic Opera will show Puccini’s “La Bohème”. The performance, directed by Romuald Wicza-Pokojski and conducted by Yaroslav Shemet, premiered on November 23 this year. The New Year’s Eve cast includes: Arnold Rutkowski (Rodolfo), Gabriela Legun (Mimi), Joanna Kędzior (Musetta).
