As mentioned here, the nominees for the prestigious Opera Awards include soprano Aleksandra Kurzak in the “Female Singer” category. Ukrainian-Polish conductor Yaroslav Shemet has been shortlisted in the “Rising Star” category, while Piotr Beczala has once again been nominated for the Readers’ Award of the “Opera” magazine. The list of nominees is available here.
Founded in 2012 by philanthropist Harry Hyman, the International Opera Awards is an annual celebration of excellence in opera around the world. The aim of the Awards is to raise the profile of opera as an art form, recognize and reward success in opera and generate funds to support emerging artists worldwide. Since 2012, the Opera Awards Foundation has raised over GBP 500K. The money has been used to fund over 125 scholarships. Last year’s Awards gala was hosted on November 9, 2023 by the Polish National Opera in Warsaw.
