Piotr Beczała performs Don José in the new production of Bizet’s “Carmen” at the Royal Opera House

The Royal Opera House in London is working on a new production of Bizet’s “Carmen“, directed by Damiano Michieletto and conducted by Antonello Manacorda.
The show will open on April 5, 2024, with tenor Piotr Beczala as Don José, and Russian mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina in the title role. Recently, the couple came together in Bizet’s opera at the Met in New York.
Aside from that, Beczala has sung Don José on other occasions: in Verona and, reapeatedly, in Vienna. In May 2025, he will revisit the role at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich for the first time.
