Poles at the Salzburg Festival 2025: Piotr Beczała, Mikołaj Trąbka and Krzysztof Warlikowski
Three Poles take part in the summer Festival in Salzburg next year, running from July 18 until August 31, 2025. The repertoire has just been unveiled, featuring a number of famous scores such as: Handel’s “Julius Caesar”, Mozart’s “Mithridates, King of Pontus” and Donizetti’s “Maria Stuarda.”
On August 25, tenor Piotr Beczała will debut as the revolutionary poet Andrea Chénier in the concert performance of Umberto Giordano’s opera of the same title. Mikołaj Trąbka, currently affiliated with the Frankfurt Opera, will perform in “Three Sisters.” The score, based around Chekhov’s drama, was written by the recently deceased composer Peter Eötvös who passed away in March. The Polish baritone will sing Tuzenbach. The show premieres August 8.
Krzysztof Warlikowski’s production of “Macbeth” by Verdi returns to the stage. The first of the six performances will be held on August 9. The Polish director is a frequent visitor to Salzburg. This year, the festival audience had the opportunity to see the premiere of his staging of “The Idiot” by Mieczysław Weinberg. The production featured Polish bass Jerzy Butryn.
