Premiere of “Manon Lescaut” at the Grand Theater in Poznań – on stage and live on OperaVision
The Grand Theater in Poznań concludes the current season with premiere of “Manon Lescaut” by Giacomo Puccini. The music director is Italian conductor Marco Guidarini, a long-term collaborator of the theatre. The opera is staged by British director Gerard Jones, who has already produced the score for the Staatstheater Mainz. “I have directed this opera before, focusing on the style of the 1980s. This time I would like to return to the original version and make visual reference to the 18th century” – Jones says.
The premiere on June 8 will feature Iwona Sobotka in the title role and Dominik Sutowicz as Des Grieux. Full cast is available on the website.
The opening night performance will be streamed live on the OperaVision platform. It will be available for free viewing until December 8, 2024.
“Manon Lescaut” was created in 1893. The libretto is based on the novel by Antoine Prevost entitled “The Story of Manon Lescaut and the Chevalier des Grieux.” The titular Manon is torn between romanting love and life of luxury.
