Soprano Bruno de Sá to perform at the 25th Bach Festival in Świdnica
On Friday, July 19, the Church of Peace in Świdnica will host concert performance by Bruno de Sá. The male soprano has been known for his wide vocal range, virtuoso coloraturas and crystal clear high notes. The Brazilian artist will sing arias by Mozart, Gluck, Haydn and Piccini, accompanied by Capella Cracoviensisw with Jan Tomasz Adamus conducting on the podium.
The times of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart saw the rise and fall of the singing art of castrati. Shortly after the composer’s death, they began to be treated as a relic of a bygone era. The roles Mozart entrusted them with were shaped so as to highlight their vocal and expressive skills as clearly and effectively as possible. Therefore, castrati scores are fraught with a number of difficulties and constitute a significant challenge for modern performers. Nowadays, this challenge is taken up by male sopranos – extraordinary singers who, thanks to their unique technique and vocal conditions, are able to sing roles originally intended for castrati. Bruno de Sá does not limit himself only to castrati scores, he willingly reaches for repertoire written for women.
Back in May, we published an interview with Bruno de Sá, which you can read here.
The concert performance is featured in the program of the 25th edition of the Bach Festival, a unique element of the musical landscape of Poland. It is a meeting place for many generations of listeners with diverse concert experience, connecting the local community and young musical talents with recognized, experienced artists. Świdnica, its surroundings, and the entire Lower Silesia is a place where different mental maps interpenetrate like nowhere else. Particularly now, in the era of obviousness, beaten paths, uniformity, populism and mediocracy. The main festival stage is the Świdnica Church of Peace – the largest wooden Baroque temple in Europe, a monument inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List and the Polish List of Historical Monuments. The 25th edition of the Festival will be held over ten days from July 18 through 28, 2024. The entire program is available here.
