Mozart’s Mass in C minor will be performed at the Holy Cross Church in Warsaw tonight (June 7). The concert is part of the program of the 33rd Mozart Festival.

The cast features soloists: Natalia Rubiś (soprano), Elżbieta Wróblewska (mezzo-soprano), Petr Nekoranec (tenor) and Artur Janda (bass). Conductor Antoni Witt will lead the Vocal Ensemble of the Warsaw Chamber Opera and the Musicae Antiquae Collegium Varsoviense Orchestra.

The Mass in C minor is frequently referred to as “The Great Mass” due to its monumental structure and concept. Individual sections of the text are independent pieces, and the work is distinguished by the vocal and instrumental complexity, including a multitude of voices (five and eight voice choir parts), four soloists, and a significant independence of the orchestra.
