Zielona Góra Philharmonic Hall hosts the 1st International Music Festival Tadeusz Baird. Held from September 20 until September 22, the event will popularize the music of Tadeusz Baird (1928-1981), Polish composer and patron of the Zielona Góra Philharmonic Hall whose works have been barely present in the Polish concert and phonographic repertoire. Although Baird’s scores will be at the center of the program, the audience will also hear works by other composers of various eras and nationalities.

The first edition of the festival is planned over three evenings. On September 20, Joanna Freszel (soprano) and Michał Sławecki (countertenor), accompanied by pianist Dominika Peszko, will perform a recital in the Chamber Hall of the Zielona Góra Philharmonic Hall. The program includes works by Tadeusz Baird, “Shakespeare’s Sonnets” by Paweł Mykietyn and “Quatre sonnets de Shakespeare” by Aleksander Tansmann.

September 21 will feature baritone Mariusz Godlewski, accompanied by the National Forum of Music’s Wrocław Baroque Orchestra, conducted by Jarosław Thiel. The audience will hear vocal scores inspired by Shakespeare’s dramas, Baird’s pieces and compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach and Henry Purcell.

The festival will be rounded off on September 22 by bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny, with Zielona Góra Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Rafał Kłoczko. The program includes the world premiere of “Leśmian’s Couplets” for voice and symphony orchestra by Alek Nowak, the symphonic poem “Hamlet” by Franz Liszt and Wotan’s monologue from “Valkyrie” by Richard Wagner.

Director of the newly established International Music Festival Tadeusz Baird is Rafał Kłoczko – conductor, composer, music theorist, director of the Zielona Góra Philharmonic Hall. The detailed program of the first edition of the festival can be found here.
