Operatic thriller “The Turn of the Screw” by Benjamin Britten returns to the stage of the Polish Royal Opera in October. The play, directed by Kamila Siwińska, premiered two years ago. It will be revisited twice in 2024: on October 25 and 26. Dominika Mical from Ruch Muzyczny writes: “The Turn of the Screw” by Benjamin Britten is not merely a 20th-century curiosity of historical value – it is a literary and musical masterpiece. It will be a great opportunity to revisit the performance from two years ago at Łazienki. Featuring: Anna Wolfinger, Julita Mirosławska, Jakub Foltak, Rafał Żurek, Aneta Łukaszewicz and Aleksandra Klimczak.

The plot, based around the gothic horror novella by Henry James, is set in a mysterious country house in Victorian England. As subsequent events and music escalate, the audience are taken deeper and deeper into the world of uncertainty and fear. A young governess is sent over to look after two orphaned siblings. She gradually becomes aware of the ghosts of the children’s deceased guardians haunting the estate. Will the young woman be able to protect Miles and Flora from evil? What secrets are they hiding?

On February 8 and 9, the audience in Szczecin will see the show directed by Natalia Babińska and awarded with statuettes at the Jan Kiepura Theater Music Awards in three  categories: best play, best direction and best set design of 2016.
