Verdi’s “Nabucco” opens the jubilee season at the Wrocław Opera
“Nabucco” by Giuseppe Verdi is a masterpiece of opera literature that has been present in theaters all over the world for over 180 years. A new version of the history of the oppressed Chosen Nation will be shown by the Wrocław Opera. The production, directed by Tomasz Janczak, is on stage October 11 and 12, 2024.
“Nabucco” premiered at La Scala in Milan in 1842 and immediately became a huge success. The librettist Temistocle Solera based the plot around the Old Testament story of the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar. The action takes place in Jerusalem and Babylon around 587 BC. King Nabucco conquers Judea, which leads to the Babylonian Captivity.
The costumes for the upcoming premiere have been designed by Małgorzata Słoniowska. Mariusz Napierała is responsible for the set design, and Anna Grabowska-Borys has prepared the choir of the Wrocław Opera. The performance will be conducted by by Giorgio Croci.
The opening performances will feature: Mikołaj Zalasiński and Leszek Skrla in the title role; Karina Skrzeszewska and Jolanta Wagner as Abigaille; Grzegorz Szostak and Szymon Kobyliński as Zachariasz. The role of Fenena will be performed by Jadwiga Postrożna and Barbara Bagińska. Tomasz Rudnicki and Jakub Michalski will play the High Priest of Baal. Tomasz Kuk and Dawid Kwieciński will appear as Ismael, and the role of Anna will be performed by Agnieszka Adamczak and Maria Rozynek. Aleksander Zuchowicz and Edward Kulczyk will sing Abdalla.
