“Carmen” will be shown seven times at the Baltic Opera and three times at the Polish National Opera in October. The Gdańsk production, directed by Paweł Szkotak premiered in June this year, while Andrzej Chyra’s staging was shown for the first time in Warsaw in 2018.

The performance at the Baltic Opera features Joanna Motulewicz and Katarzyna Nowosad sharing the title role, Arnold Rutkowski and Rafał Bartmiński as Don José, Gabriela Legun and Ruslana Koval as Micaëla, Tomasz Rak and Viktor Yankowskyi as Escamillo. The cast at the Polish National Opera includes Monika Ledzion-Porczyńska and Gosha Kowalińska revisiting the title role, Romanian tenor Teodor Ilincăi and Arnold Rutkowski making their debuts as Don José. The role of Micaëla will also be performed by Gabriela Legun, sharing the performances with Ewa Tracz. Andriia Kyamcha and Liam James Karai (this year’s Operalia finalist) perform Escamillo.

The performances are conducted by Yaroslav Shemet in Gdańsk and Patrick Fournillier in Warsaw.
