Maria Rozynek and Joanna Moskowicz – two Lucias at the end of the season at the Wrocław Opera
The last performance of the current season at the Wrocław Opera will be “Lucia di Lammermoor.” Donizetti’s work, staged by Anette Leistenschneider and conducted by Aleksander Gref, will be shown on June 29 and 30.
The two evenings will feature two different casts, with sopranos Maria Rozynek (June 29) and Joanna Moskowicz (June 30) in the title role. Both singers performed in the production on the Wrocław stage in the previous season. Szymon Rona and Adrian Domarecki will sing Edgar, Łukasz Motkowicz and Adam Woźniak will play the role of Enrico, while Grzegorz Szostak will perform Raimondo in both shows. The character of Normann will be played by Valerii Zadorozhnyi, the roles of Artur will be played by Aleksander Zuchowicz and Jędrzej Tomczyk, and the role of Alisa will be performed by Jadwiga Postrożna and Barbara Bagińska.
Donizetti’s three-act tragic opera is set in Scotland at the end of the 16th century. Lovers Łucja and Edgar, despite the feud between their families, become engaged. The girl’s brother Henry Ashton wants to save the family fortune and tricks his sister into marrying the wealthy Lord Arthur Bucklaw. When Edgar learns of Lucy’s betrayal, he curses her and leaves. The distraught Lucia kills Arthur on their wedding night and she dies herself. Alone and embittered, Edgar takes his own life.
