For the sixth time, the Warsaw Chamber Opera will open its door to the world of Mozart, inviting young music enthusiasts to take part in the Mozart Junior Festival. Running from May 17 until July 6, the programme promises an unforgettable musical adventure in an intimate, welcoming setting.

Four child-friendly adaptations of operas by the Salzburg genius will offer a fresh take on his classic masterpieces. The festival opens on May 17, coinciding with Night of Museums celebrations. That day will feature concerts, workshops, opera fashion shows, and book promotions.

The first performance on the festival program is “The Last Serenade: Don Giovanni Punished” (May 22), directed by Michał Znaniecki. This staging will transport young audiences into the world of Don Giovanni, presenting the tale of his downfall and repentance in a format tailored to children.

On May 29, the festival will premiere “The True Story of The Magic Flute.” In this magical tale, good will battle evil, and love will triumph over hate. Alongside original arias from “The Magic Flute,“ the production will feature excerpts from William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,“ adding a new dimension to the piece. The production will also mark the debut of students from the Vocal Department of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.

The festival will also include performances of “Bastien and Bastienne,” Mozart’s charming opera about love and jealousy, directed by Tomasz Cyz, and “The Abduction from the Seraglio: Love Wins” (June 21), a story of love, courage, and loyalty, rich in universal values such as forgiveness and honor. These will be staged at the Basen Artystyczny (Artistic Pool) venue.

On June 23, the Mozart Youth Orchestra will perform a concert showcasing the results of their work under the guidance of Ana Liz Ojeda Hernández. The orchestra, composed of young musicians selected from dozens of applications from across Poland, will perform at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio.

The festival will conclude on July 3 with the premiere of “Successful Naivety,” a comic opera buffa in three acts. This adaptation of a Mozart opera, with a libretto by Marco Coltellini, invites young viewers into a world of humorous intrigue and romantic entanglements. The musical direction will be led by Tomasz Pokrzywiński, and the staging by Jitka Stokalska. The cast includes Magdalena Stefaniak, Aleksandra Borkiewicz, Katarzyna Szymkowiak, Adrian Domarecki, Jacek Szponarski, Artur Janda, and Tomasz Łykowski.

Throughout the festival, workshops will be held to introduce children to the world of opera, allowing them to explore the secrets of this genre.
