Polish premiere of Janáček’s “The Excursions of Mr Brouček” at Poznań Grand Theater
Double irony, time travel, latex and sequins, moon sausages, crossing the boundaries of absurdity – Poznań Grand Theater announces the Polish premiere of Janáček’s opera “The Excursions of Mr Brouček“. The production, directed by David Pountney, was first shown at the Grange Park Opera, Surrey.
Inspired by Svatopluk Čech’s novel, “The Excursions of Mr Brouček” was the fifth opera by the Czech composer Janáček to premiere in 1920.
Mr Brouček is a petty-bourgeois landlord, a hedonist with an inseparable mug of beer in his hand. Tired of his barren existence, he leaves the Prague beer hall and sets off on a journey. He first visits the Moon, then travels back in time to the 15th century, finding himself among the Hussites.
The title role of Mr Brouček will be sung by Karol Kozłowski. He will be joined on stage by: Rafał Żurek, Bartłomiej Misiuda, Monika Mych-Nowicka, Sebastian Szumski, Rafał Bartmiński, Natalia Puczewska-Braun and Anna Lubańska.
The opening night performance under the musical direction of Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak will take place on March 15. Three more shows are planned on March 17, 19 and 21, 2024. The opera is intended for viewers over the age of 16.
