Puccini’s “Turandot” starring Anna Netrebko at Cinema City Poland in March
Cinema City Poland will show the staging of Puccini’s “Turandot” from the famous “Arena di Verona” Festival as part of its “Opera in Cinema” series presenting European opera masterpieces on cinema screens. Audiences will have an opportunity to see the 2022 production by the legendary Italian director Franco Zeffirelli (1923-2019) on March 5, 8 and 10.
The opera in three acts, although never completed by the composer, is considered one of the most impressive works in his oeuvre. The tale of a princess who cold-bloodedly orders the beheading of successive suitors has been showcased on opera stages for nearly 100 years.
The titular Turandot is sung by Russian diva Anna Netrebko, while Yusif Eyvazov plays the role of Calaf, and Carlo Bosi embodies the character of Emperor Altoum. The orchestra is conducted by Marco Armiliato (Italy).
The “Opera in Cinema” series aims to bring grand-scale international productions with stellar casts closer to the Polish audience. Experiencing the musical and visual splendor of opera performances on the big cinema screen allows viewers to feel the atmosphere of these monumental events, as originally presented in live broadcasts. Operas are presented in their original language versions with Polish subtitles, enabling the audience to follow the libretto.
The opera will be screened in Cinema City theaters in Warsaw, Cracow, Wrocław, Poznań, Katowice, Łódz, Lublin, Częstochowa, Toruń, Gliwice, Bydgoszcz, Zielona Góra, and Bielsko Biała. More details, opera trailers, tickets, and subscriptions are available at www.cinema-city.pl/opera.
