Polish cinemas celebrate International Dance Day with Tchaikovsky’s ballet “Sleeping Beauty”. The screenings will be held at Cinema City on April 28, and Multikino on April 29. The choreography for the ballet company of the Zurich Opera House was created by Christian Spuck.

The 2022 production of “Sleeping Beauty” is primarily a colorful show for children, full of humor, with rich decorations and costumes. At the same time, adult viewers can enjoy reading hidden meanings and references inaccessible to younger audiences.

The famous ballet by Pyotr Tchaikovsky is based on Charles Perrault’s version of the fairy tale. It tells the story of Princess Aurora, who, on her sixteenth birthday, pricks her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel enchanted by an evil fairy and falls asleep for a hundred years.

The duration of the performance is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes (including one intermission). “Sleeping Beauty” will be shown in selected cinemas throughout Poland.

International Dance Day, celebrated around the world on April 29, was established by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute ITI, the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO. The date was chosen to commemorate the baptism of the outstanding reformer of the art of dance, creator of the European ballet theater, French dancer and choreographer Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810).
