“The Italian Girl in Algiers” at the Wrocław Opera. Waldemar Zawodziński directs
“The Italian Girl in Algiers” by Gioachino Rossini is the last premiere at the Wrocław Opera lined up for the current season. The opera has been featured in the theatre’s repertoire for the first time in 30 years.
The production is staged by Waldemar Zawodziński, who has so far directed several other performances for the Wrocław Opera. Later this month, the theatre resumes Zawodziński’s production of “Cavalleria rusticana / Pagliacci” with Music Director Georgios Balatsinos – Swiss conductor of Greek origin working with the Sorbian National Ensemble in Bautzen.
The show opens on May 18 with more performances on May 19, June 14-16 and 18. The cast features: Szymon Kobyliński (Mustafà), Iwona Handzlik (Elvira), Aleksander Kunach (Lindoro), Aleksandra Opała (Izabella).
“The Italian Girl in Algiers” is an opera buffa about love adventures of Mustafà, Elvira, Lindoro and Isabella in an oriental setting.
