”This is an emergency!” – Warsaw Philharmonic concert interrupted by climate protesters
This is an emergency! Our world is burning. We are the last generation that can stop the climate catastrophe. We demand radical investment in public transport. We are the last generation that can change things. We apologize for the inconvenience, but this show cannot continue any longer. Cheap and accessible public transport NOW – shouted Zuzanna who, together with another climate activist, unfurled the “Last Generation” banner and disrupted Sunday’s concert at the Warsaw Philharmonic, held on the occasion of the 80th birthday and 60th anniversary of Antoni Wit’s artistic practice (more details here).
The concert was not stopped, but the conductor Antoni Wit responded by taking the banner out of the activists’ hands.
The Last Generation group have reported on their social media both activists have been identified by the police, and they now face possible consequences.
The Last Generation (Ostatenie Pokolenie) is a citizens’ campaign putting pressure on the government to take a serious approach to health and safety issues in times of looming climate collapse. As of now the organization has nearly one hundred members.
The Western prototype of the group – Letzte Generation – is an organization of climate activists from Germany, Austria and Italy who stand behind similar actions in other countries. Their protests included glueing themselves to airport runways or painting the Brandenburg Gate in orange.
