This summer at Arena di Verona – program of the 101st Festival unveiled
The 101st Arena di Verona Opera Festival 2024 opens on June 7. The upcoming summer edition will welcome its audiences until September 8. It will honour Giacomo Puccini, coinciding with the centenary of the composer’s death.
The exact anniversary falls on November 29, 2024, but the Arena will open the Festival ahead of the date with ”Turandot”, thus paying homage to Puccini’s most spectacular work, with Franco Zeffirelli’s (1923-2019) sets, and costumes by Oscar winner Emi Wada.
Also dedicated to Puccini will be the revival of “Tosca” starring Anna Netrebko and Jonas Kaufmann. “La Bohème” will return to the Arena after 14 years.
The Arena has also announced two most recent productions of “The Barber of Seville” by Rossini and “Carmen” by Bizet, as well as the staging of Verdi’s “Aida” prepared for the 100th anniversary.
Tickets are available on the website.
The ancient amphitheater in Verona was built around 30 AD. Nowadays it can accommodate 15,000 spectators, with the annual attendance exceeding 500,000 people.
