Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino” from the Met Opera in selected Polish theatres on March 9
The Met Opera in New York premiered Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino” (“The Force of Destiny”) in February. The show, directed by Mariusz Treliński and co-produced by the Metropolitan Opera and Teatr Wielki–Polish National Opera, is the first new staging of Verdi’s grand tale of inevitable human fate at the New York Opera in 30 years. The production is set to be transmitted live in selected theatres worldwide in The Met: Live in HD series on March 9, 2024.
The performance, conducted by Met musical director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, features soprano Lise Davidsen following a string of triumphs in New York (since 2019) with her role debut as Leonora. The cast also features tenor Brian Jagde as Leonora’s forbidden beloved Don Alvaro, baritone Igor Golovatenko as her vengeful brother Don Carlo, mezzo-soprano Judit Kutasi as the fortune teller Preziosilla, bass-baritone Patrick Carfizzi as Fra Melitone, and bass Soloman Howard as both Leonora’s father and Padre Guardiano.
The Live from the New York stage will be transmitted on March 9 in selected Polish theatres, including: the Podlaska Opera in Białystok, STUDIO teatrgaleria in Warsaw, the Philharmonic in Łódź, the Palace Cinema in Poznań, the Studio Cinema Amok in Gliwice and the OFK Iluzja cinema in Częstochowa.
The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD 2023-24 is the seventeenth season of the award-winning series of live movie theatre transmissions from the New York Met Opera. Other productions lined up for the current season include Gounod’s “Romeo and Juliet” (March 23) as well as Puccini’s “The Swallow” (April 20) and “Madama Butterfly” (May 11).
