Wiener Staatsoper’s 2024-25 season unveils cast featuring Polish singers: Artur Ruciński, Piotr Beczała, Tomasz Konieczny, Aleksandra Kurzak and Andrzej Filończyk
The Vienna State Opera has lined up six opera premieres for the upcoming 2024-25 season. In 2024, the Staatsoper opens “Don Carlo” by Verdi (September 26) and “The End” by Kurtág (October 26). The 2025 program features “The Magic Flute” by Mozart (January 27), “Norma” by Bellini (February 22), “Iolanta” by Tchaikovsky (March 24) and “Tannhäuser and the Tournament of Song at Wartburg” by Wagner (May 22).
Aside from new productions, the season features seven revivals, two new ballet productions and 39 other productions in the repertoire (opera, ballet, children’s opera), plus concerts, matinees and educational projectss, with cast including Polish singers.
Artur Ruciński will make his debut on stage in Vienna as Count Luna. Performances of Verdi’s “Torubadour” with the Polish baritone are scheduled on February 2, 5, 8 and 11, 2025.
“Trubadur” will also feature Piotr Beczała. The tenor will sing the role of Manrico in the second series of performances of Verdi’s score, scheduled for May 18, 21, 24, 27 and 30, 2025. Beczała will also appear as Cavaradossi in Puccini’s “Tosca” on February 9, 12, 15 and 17, 2025.
Aleksandra Kurzak will perform for the Viennese audience as the titular Tosca. The soprano will sing on May 9, 12, 14 and 17, 2025. She will be joined on stage by Roberto Alagna as Cavaradossi.
Andrzej Filończyk will sing Figaro in Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville.” The baritone will perform on February 14, 18 and 21, 2025.
Tomasz Konieczny will sing the role of Jokanaan in “Salome” by R. Strauss on September 21, 23 and 25, 2024 and on April 5, 7 and 10, 2025. The bass-baritone will also give a recital on March 26, 2025. The artist will be accompanied by Lech Napierała on piano.
On Sunday, April 28, from 11.30 a.m., the Vienna State Opera will present the 2024/25 season to the public. The announcement will be streamed via YouTube.
