Massenet’s “Manon” shown at the jubilee XXX Bydgoszcz Opera Festival
On April 25, Opera Nova will show Jules Massenet’s “Manon”, marking a rare appearance of the opera in Poland. The libretto is based on the then scandalous novel by Abbé Prevost, containing a number of autobiographical threads. The production of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater is featured in the program of the XXX Bydgoszcz Opera Festival.
The Vilnius “Manon” was staged by French director Vincent Boussard. Viktorija Miškūnaite in the title role is accompanied by Italian tenor Mickael Spadaccini as the Chevalier Des Grieux.
Bydgoszcz Opera Festival has presented productions of the Lithuanian national stage on a number of occasions, including works by Verdi (“Otello”, “Don Carlos”), Halevy (“The Jewess”), ballets (“La Bayadère”, “Piaf”) and the musical “Candide.”
Massenet’s opera has only been shown once in the history of the Festival – in 2010, the audience had an opportunity to see “Werther” produced by the Grand Theater in Poznań.
