Donizetti’s three-act tragic opera tells a story set in Scotland at the end of the 16th century. Lovers Łucja and Edgar, despite the feud between their families, become engaged. However, the girl’s brother, Enrico Ashton, wants to save the family fortune and tricks his sister into marrying the wealthy Lord Arthur Bucklaw. When Edgar learns of Lucy’s betrayal, he curses her and leaves. The distraught woman kills Arthur on their wedding night and dies herself. Alone and embittered, Edgar takes his own life.
In the 2023-24 season, Artur Ruciński will be seen at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples as Miller in “Luiza Miller” (June 6-9, 2024) and at the Opernhaus in Zurich as Gerard in “Andrea Chenier” (July 7-14, 2024).
